Church of the Hills Church near Bergheim is growing - Hill Country Weekly
Christ of the Hills Church, an Evangelical Presbyterian Church, near Bergheim is conducting Sunday services at 11 a.m. with Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. They are seeking new members and all are invited to attend the Sunday service. This Church was established in 2016 as one of the first church plants in the Texas Presbytery of the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO).
Cordillera residents Dee and Katy Calverley and Kendalia residents George and Charolette Phair started the calling as a home church.
It recently acquired new space at the Boerne Flags Business Park located at 635 State Highway 46 East, Suites 101a and 204 in Kendall County. They began worshiping at the new location in March 2019. The church is supported by First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio and the Christ of the Hills Church family.
Reverend Dr. Ron Scates serves as the supply pastor. Scates is sharing his gift of ministry and leadership while also supporting church planting in Jakarta, Indonesia throughout the year.
Justin McKenzie, a member of the Steering Team, states that they are in the final stages of selecting a permanent pastor by the end of the year. “We are thrilled to invite anyone to join us for our in depth Bible study on Sundays. We get into The Word and are true to The Word; 98% of our congregation attend Bible study. We build our paths with Jesus.”
ECO is a relatively new Presbyterian denomination, founded in 2012. Its theology and biblical doctrine is orthodox and strictly biblically focused.
Its essential tenants include the authority of God’s word, the Holy Trinity, the Incarnation of Christ and living in obedience to God’s word. ECO has no social or political agenda except that which is specifically provided for in the Scriptures.
Volunteers from the Christ of the Hills Church lead a short worship service at Cibolo House at Morningside Ministries, Menger Springs.
Many of the residents are shut-ins and enjoy the service, music and conversations. A Christmas Eve service is also held for the residents. The congregation donates time also to Hill Country Daily Bread by restocking the warehouse for community clothing pickups and food box pickups.
All ages enjoy the wonderful time to work together and build memories.

Members of the church live their lives fulfilling God’s Word by participating in community service efforts such as, leading worship services for Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs and volunteering at Hill Country Daily Bread.
